What makes copper work in a room is that its colour never settles: golden in daylight, red under a lamp in the evening. This category gathers wall clocks, vases, patinated objects and antique-look pieces. Decorative items need no tin lining; the surface may be left bare, patinated or lacquered.
Patina is the natural layer copper forms as it reacts with air. The blue-green patina on our pieces is developed under control in the workshop and continues to deepen on its own. Lacquered models stay bright for a long time but will still darken over the years, that is the nature of the metal, not a fault.
Three finishes cover almost everything we sell. Bright polished copper is the pink-gold most people picture, and it asks for the most attention. The antique finish is copper darkened deliberately and then relieved on the high points so the form still reads; it is stable and forgiving, and the age is applied in our workshop rather than earned, so these are not genuine antiques. Green patina is the carbonate layer, the colour of old roofs and statues, and it should never be polished.
Copper also answers to the air in the room. A piece hung over a gas hob or standing in a coastal house moves through its colours in a few months; the same piece in a dry living room looks much as it arrived a year later. Buy for the room you actually have.
Copper darkens faster in damp air, so colour shifts more quickly in a bathroom or above a kitchen counter. A dry microfibre cloth is enough for dusting. Use copper lacquer a few times a year on pieces you want to keep bright; never polish a patinated piece, or the finish you bought disappears. Hang heavy wall pieces on a fixing rated well above their weight, because a 50 cm copper clock is not light.
